“FICM welcomes seasoned directors” – Variety

In its September 2013 edition, Variety magazine published an article by James Young that emphasized the novelties the 11th FICM will offer. The author praised the decision to open up the feature film competition to works by more seasoned directors and quotes Daniela Michel, general director of the festival:

“Morelia has become the best place for Mexicans to present work. So we believe it’s very important for the festival to change organically … in a way that continues to give a space to those directors who started out showing their work with us.”

{{Variety}} also mentions FICM’s opening film: {{Gravity}} by Alfonso Cuarón

FICM remains dedicated to showing the work of emerging Mexican talent. This year it has created an Opera Prima prize for first-and second-time works, and six of the 12 films in the Feature Film Section are eligible for the award. Without losing sight of its original purpose, FICM is in a natural process of development and we are pleased that a prestigious international publication, such as Variety, has acknowledged this.
