FICM mourns the passing of François Dupeyron

The Morelia International Film Festival is deeply saddened to hear of the death of François Dupeyron. A dear friend, great writer and filmmaker, Dupeyron was part of the jury at the 9th edition of FICM.

A graduate from the IDHEC (Institut des Hautes Études Cinématographiques), he made a series of short films, winning the César Award for Best Short Film on a number of occasions. He also won several awards at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival. His film La chambre des officers was part of the Official Selection at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival. Some of his most noteworthy feature films include Drôle d'endroit pour une reencontré (1988), La chambre des officiers (2001), Monsieur Ibrahim (2003), Aide-toi, le ciel t’aidera (2008), Conversations à Rechlin (2009), Trésor (2009), co-directed with Claude Berri, and Aide-toi, le ciel t'aidera (2008), which obtained four nominations for the Lumière Awards, taking away the award for Best Director.

Dupeyron also wrote several novels, as well as screenplays for other directors. In 2009, he was awarded with the France Culture Prize for lifetime achievement and contribution to cinema.
