Aningaaq is a story about an Inuit fisherman camping on the ice over a frozen fjord. The short film was part of the Orizzonti section in competition at the Venice Film Festival 2013 and was directed, written, produced and edited by Jonás Cuarón, with photography by Alexis Zabe, who also did the photography in Luz silenciosa (Silent Light, 2007) by Carlos Reygadas. In addition, the short film was presented at the Telluride Film Festival. Jonás Cuarón was born in Mexico City in 1983 and made his debut in 2007 with Año uña, which he wrote, directed and produced. That same year he directed the short film La doctrina del shock (The Shock Doctrine). Both titles were presented at FICM 2007. He and his father, Alfonso Cuarón, co-wrote the screenplay for Gravity, which opened the Venice Film Festival 2013 and will be the opening film at 11th FICM.
