10 · 09 · 09 Bruno Dumont and Carlos Reygadas advise young filmmakers Share with twitter Share with facebook Share with mail Copy to clipboard Doris Morales Jean Christophe Berjon moderated the meeting and encouraged young filmmakers to ask both directors any question they wanted. The first thing they were asked was about the cinematographic language they use in their films. Dumont said: "I don´t really know. I have never asked myself that. It´s more about what we have inside us and has to come out it always finds its way out. Probably I have a specific language, but I don´t know which it is.. A third party can analyze certain things in my work, but we can start by seeing if the movie is well done or not." Carlos Reygadas said: "I concur with Dumont. It’s something that has to do with a very personal vision. It’s like suddenly feeling a place, people, or sound, and trying to materialize it afterwards. It’s very similar to dreaming, as if you could make your dreams come true in a movie. It doesn’t mean it consists of a system or a structured program. You just need to express what you feel." Other topics that were analyzed during this meeting were: the handling and casting of actors, timing in their movies, camera work and the interest in Mexico to make documentary films.
