Dieter Kosslick introduces "Goethe Institute Presents" program

Kosslick said it was an honor to present this film, winner of the Golden Bear for Best Picture at the Berlinale last year. He pointed out that the objective of the film is not to entertain but to stimulate reflection. Bárbara, starring Nina Hoss and Ronald Zehrfeld, takes place nine years before the fall of the Berlin Wall, during a very complex political time.

At the screening, Kosslick launched the special program "Goethe Institute Presents," a special film series by Christian Petzold. Fantasmas /Gespenster (2005), Yella (2007) and Jerichow (2008) are the other films by this director that will also be screened.

Petzold studied German and drama. He later worked as a film critic. From 1988 to 1994 he studied at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin and worked as an assistant director under Harun Farocki and Hartmut Bitomsky. His film Die innere Sicherheit (The State that I'm In) won both the German Film Prize (Best Feature Film) and the International Federation of Film Critics Award at Cannes in 2001.
