Diego Luna receives Tequila Cuervo award

The award was given to Luna in recognition of his professional career and contribution to Mexican cinema during a brief ceremony, attended by Alejandro Ramírez, president of FICM, Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Batel, vice president of FICM, and Juan Carlos Canales, director of marketing at José Cuervo.

Cárdenas Batel pointed out that Casa Cuervo had given its support to Morelia for the past 8 years.

Diego Luna expressed his gratitude for the award that he dedicated to his wife and children. “One doesn’t do this for money, but when you win it you feel happy. I remember when Cuarón won it, he said to me: ‘you have to invest it in something that will give it back in the same way.”

The director of Abel commented that the Morelia International Film Festival has given him very positive experiences. “It allows us to screen our films in packed theaters, become friends with Alejandro Ramírez and Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Batel, have marvelous associates for Ambulante, and now I’m leaving with 100,000 pesos.”
Cárdenas Batel also presented Luna with the El Ojo sculpture that his given to Festival winners.

Since 2005, Tequila José Cuervo Tradicional has presented the prize to Mexican directors with noteworthy careers who are currently working on projects and have made outstanding contributions to the Mexican film scene.
