Daniela Michel celebrates with FICM winners at the Cineteca Nacional

During the reception, filmmakers such as Dalia Huerta, winner of the Best Mexican Short Documentary for Carne que recuerda (Flesh that Remembers), Marta Ferrer, winner of the Best Mexican Documentary for El Varal, and Miguel Ángel Ventura, who received the Studio 5 de Mayo Special Award for El venado y la niebla (The Deer and the Fog), all agreed that FICM was an unforgettable experience and that it had motivated them to continue forward in their work.

Álvaro Curiel, who won the Audience Award for Acorazado, also attended the event. His debut film was screened at the Sala Salvador Toscano, one of the Cineteca’s theaters.

Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Batel, FICM vice president, was there to enthusiastically greet and talk with the winners.

In an interview, Daniela Michel thanked the Cineteca Nacional for supporting FICM each year by presenting the best films from its editions.

“Historically we have a relationship with the Cineteca Nacional, ever since we presented the Mexican Short Film Series in 1994. The essence and the birth of this effort to promote young Mexican filmmakers began in this space and I’m very happy that this encounter takes place here each year,” Michel said.

The FICM director also emphasized the support she has received from the new administration of the Cineteca Nacional, headed by Paola Astorga.

She said the 8th Morelia International Film Festival tour begins with screenings at the Cineteca Nacional, and then moves on to Cinépolis, el Museo Universitario del Chopo, and the MUAC.
 
“We’ve also received invitations to participate in the Cannes Festival and Celebrate Mexico Now, where some of our winning directors will attend,” she added.

Also present at the event were Claudia Norman, director of Celebrate Mexico Now Festival; Magdalena Acosta, president of Women in Film and Television; and Elena Fortes, former director of Ambulante, Documentary Film Tour.
