Cumbia Callera wins best first film prize in Bolivia

[imagen]René Villarreal’s film “Cumbia Callera” (“Cumbia Connection”) was an official selection at the 5th Morelia International Film Festival and won the Tatú Tumpá prize for best first film at the 10th Ibero-American Film Festival of Santa Cruz, Bolivia.

The Mexican film also participated in the Montreal World Film Festival in Montreal, Quebec, where it was signed for Canadian distribution, adding another country to the list where it will be shown, which includes Russia, Venezuela and the United States.

The film will also take part in the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival (LALIFF), which is directed by Edward James Olmos and runs from September 12 to 19 this year. René Villareal, Fernanda García (La Cory) and Celso Piña will all be at the LALIFF in order to present the film. From October 7 to 11 the film will compete in the Saint-Jean-de-Luz Festival of Young Directors and then at the 3rd Festival of Latin Cinema in Paris, France from October 14 to 21.

“Cumbia Callera” will be shown on October 11 at a Cinemark event in Mexico. Its wide release is planned for September 17 of the current year.
