Favoring animation

[imagen]Program 1 of the short films in competition at the FICM was presented during a press conference with the directors. Adriana Bravo and Andrea Robles (Fish); Guadalupe Sánchez (Niño de mis ojos); Sofía Carrillo (Fuera de control), Karla Castañeda (Jacinta); Leopoldo Aguilar (De cómo los niños pueden volar) and Dominique Jonard (Xani Xepica, ¡Este flojo!) were in agreement that animation allowed them to have better control of the setting and characters, whether in stop motion or drawings on paper, they are able to use the exact image they want for their stories.

Talking about how it is to make animated films in Mexico, Sofía Carrillo and Guadalupe Sánchez said that there are always more doors opening to show short films, however, commercial theaters ought to be obligated to show a short film with each feature, “because there is a lot of talent out there, but people also need to be informed about this kind of work and we have to do something about that.”

When talking about how difficult it is to distribute their work, Leopoldo Aguilar said that in his case the Mexican Cinematography Institute (IMCINE) has done their part; Domique Jonard added that it is very difficult to distribute independently, as it ends up being really exhausting to go to so many festivals all over the world. “That is why it is better to entrust your film to an institution has experience and infrastructure.”
