Its mission is to develop independent cinema by providing a space for filmmakers to envision and develop their work, bringing them together to exchange ideas and find new opportunities for collaboration. The 2016 International Screenwriter’s Workshop is a two-week residential workshop that gives independent screenwriters the opportunity to work intensively on their feature length narrative scripts in an environment structured to foster professional collaboration and high-caliber script development. The workshop will take place in Tzintzuntzan, a small town in the State of Michoacán, Mexico, approximately 50 km from the city of Morelia. The workshop, writing, and living spaces are tucked amidst the beauty of the Sierra Madre Mountains, overlooking Lake Pátzcuaro, a quiet natural retreat. Photo by Cine Qua Non Lab The workshop will be held from Sunday, August 7th, through Saturday, August 20th, 2016. Ten filmmakers from around the world will be selected to participate. Applications will only be accepted for completed feature film scripts that are ready for the revision process. Only writers or writer/directors developing their first or second feature film are eligible to apply. All applications must be submitted in English, but scripts can be in English or Spanish. The workshop will be held in English and all participants will need to prepare English language scripts if accepted to the workshop. The submission deadline is April 10th, 2016.
