Press conference with Daniel Castro Zimbrón, Táu

Táu, which signifies "sun" in the Huichol language, focuses on a biologist's personal exploration in the Wirikuta desert. The biologist confronts the climate and his deepest pain; the desert accompanies and challenges him. His memories interact with his apparent reality. The director recognized an influence of Solyaris/Solaris (1972) by Andrey Tarkovskiy in his work.

Daniel Castro Zimbrón also emphasized the importance of conserving traditions, as well as the mystery and enchantment of the San Luis Potosí desert. He said this project is a banner that supports the defense of this area, which is threatened by the exploitation of its resources.

Brontis Jodorowsky is the lead actor and takes on the main narrative part of the film. The transformation process of his character is visible; his interpretive work accompanies the direction, the photography of Diego García and the magic of the Huichol traditions. Although neither Jodorowsky or Mariana González live in Mexico, the director chose them as actors in the film.  The cast recognized the desert as one more character in this trek, which is marked by constant cycles encountered by the protagonist.

Diego García said that he used only natural light in the film; as a photographer he needed no additional external elements.

This project is part of a trilogy that the director plans to make about different manifestations of human relations. He hopes this will be his letter of presentation. Tau will make the rounds of the festival circuit which will allow the director to grow, develop and present himself before different media.
Daniel Castro Zimbrón studied at the CCC film school and this film is his feature debut.

Táu will screen on Monday, Nov. 5, at 6:30 pm at the Cinépolis Centro Morelia.
