Three Miniatures for Eugenio

1. Why did you decide to tell this story?

Tres miniaturas de Eugenio is both a tribute and a farewell to the great musician and dear friend, Eugenio Toussaint. These three small stories are inspired by three musical pieces that represent the different styles that Toussaint embraced as an artist: jazz, contemporary music and orchestral music. They are three characters, by themselves, at a moment of change. This film emerges from a personal need to say "good-by" and "I'm going to miss you" at the same time.

2. How did you go about organizing your work team?

During the production, the entire team was made up of John Grillo (photography director of my previous film Vuelve a la vida) and myself. I wrote three stories specifically for the three actors that would be the main characters. Finally I was very fortunate to work with the editor Valentina Leduc, which is always a pleasure. Of course, the most important part of this film is the music of Eugenio Toussaint, from which everything else emerges.

3. What was the biggest challenge you faced making the film?

The big challenge is always trying to transmit the emotional experience to the audience.

4. What kind of films would you like to continue making?

I like to make films that make people laugh and cry. I'm very pleased that I've reached the point where I can dedicate my work solely to personal projects.

5. What does it mean to you having been selected to participate in the 10th edition of FICM?

I've been coming to the festival for 10 years. I admire Daniela Michel and the entire staff who organize this annual event where crazy people who love to make and see films come together. It is also the opportunity to meet some of the people who I admire in a fraternal environment. I always look forward to the festival; it's like an annual banquet where you know you're going to enjoy delicious food. It is an honor to be a part of this. I'm very happy that the world premiere of Tres miniaturas de Eugenio will be here.
