Cine Qua Non Lab presents its 2012 participants

This summer, the workshop will be facilitated by Christina Lazaridi, an Academy Award nominated screenwriter for the short film One Day Crossing (2001). Christina teaches screenwriting at Columbia’s Graduate Film Division and at Princeton University. You can read more about Christina’s career and about Cine Qua Non Lab’s location: here.

The projects selected for the workshop are completed feature scripts in the last stages of revision, almost ready for production. Other criteria used to evaluate the applicants are the comprehension, freshness and originality of their work. In the case of filmmakers from Michoacán, the fact that the scripts were designed to be produced in the same state was also taken into consideration. The 2012 participants are:

  • Alejandro Andrade Pease (Mexico), with the project Cuernavaca.
  • Daniel Benavides (Ecuador), with the project Mandoble.
  • Diego Alejandro Flores Contreras (Mexico).
  • Evan Buxbaum (USA), with the project Sun Belt Express.
  • Francisco Varone (Argentina), with the project Camino a La Paz.
  • Isold Uggadottir (Iceland), with the project Untitled Woman on the Verge Project.
  • Iván Martínez Pérez (Mexico), winner of the Michoacán Competition for Best Short Screenplay FICM 2011, with the project Sísifo.
  • Jorge Ojeda Dávila (Mexico).
  • Jurgen Ureña (Costa Rica), with the project Días rotos.
  • Maria Govan (Bahamas), with the project Epiphany.
  • Mehrnoush Aliaghaei (Iran / USA), with the project Where the Wild Flowers Grow.
  • Pedro Ielpi (Argentina), with the project La reivindicación.
  • Valeria Pivato (Argentina), with the project Ampacama Ampacama.

In past years, some of the participants of Cine Qua Non Lab Screenwriter’s Workshop were able to get support from public and private institutions for the production of their films. This was the case of Teresa la novia del libertador by Rocío Lladó (Peru), Tamara y la catarina by Lucía Carreras (Mexico), Objetos celestes by Lorena Padilla (Mexico) and Edén by Elise DuRant (Mexico / USA). With the success of its participants Cine Qua Non Lab is established as an indispensable space for independent cinema.
