08 · 28 · 23 Cine para todxs 2023: The Inheritors by Eugenio Polgovsky Share with twitter Share with facebook Share with mail Copy to clipboard The Morelia International Film Festival (FICM) presents Cine para todxs 2023, a program that will screen Mexican, contemporary and classic films, which have had a significant impact on the history of national cinema, in community spaces. All the works screened in this program have been made by filmmakers who have been part of past editions of the FICM, such is the case of The Inheritors (2008) by Eugenio Polgovsky. The inheritors (dir. Eugenio Polgovsky, 2008) This edition of the program, which will take place from July 31 to October 8, 2023, has the valuable support of the Instituto Mexicano de Cinematografía (IMCINE) through the Fomento al Cine Mexicano (FOCINE) program. The Inheritors (2008) is about the lives of children in the Mexican countryside and their daily struggle to survive. The documentary explores how their realities mirror those of their ancestors, and reflects on how, generation after generation, they remain trapped in a perpetual cycle of poverty. The film was screened at the 6th Morelia International Film Festival. In 2009, he had an outstanding participation in international award ceremonies. He won the Best Documentary Award at the Lima Film Festival, the Joris Ivens Award at the Cinéma du Réel Festival and a Honorable Mention at the Miami Film Festival. The inheritors (dir. Eugenio Polgovsky, 2008) About the Director He was born in 1977 in Mexico City. His work is about the reality of the inhabitants of the rural Mexico and the borders between nature and modern civilization. He studied Directing and Cinematography at Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (CCC). His documentaries Tropico de cancer (2004), The Inheritors (2008), Mexican Ritual (2012) and Resurrección (2016) were recognized at the most prestigious festivals in the world. His films stood out for their original poetic, ecological and humanist language. He received four Ariel Awards, the José Rovirosa UNAM Award, the Joris Ivens Award from the Cinemma du Réel Festival, and, among more than 30 international awards, he was one of the selected talents by the International Film Festival Rotterdam’s Hubert Bals Fund. In 2010 he was guest director of Colgate University's Robert Flaherty Seminary. In 2011, the newspaper Le Monde described him as "A wizard of cinema" and in 2016 he was the first filmmaker to receive the recognition of Fellow of the Arts at Trinity College, University of Cambridge, England. The documentary film will have a screening at Cine Bolomchon, in San Pedro Chenalhó, Chiapas, on September 22 at 5:00 p.m.
