All the works screened in this program have been made by filmmakers who have been part of past editions of the FICM, such is the case of Cronos (1993) by Guillermo del Toro. Cronos (dir. Guillermo del Toro, 1993) This edition of the program, which will take place from July 31 to October 8, 2023, has the valuable support of the Instituto Mexicano de Cinematografía (IMCINE) through the Fomento al Cine Mexicano (FOCINE) program. The film Cronos is about a mechanism inside a small golden device that grants eternal life to its possessor. The invention was built by an alchemist in 1535 and survives until 1997, when it is discovered by the antique dealer Jesús Gris. The promise of eternal life becomes an obsession for the old and sick Dieter de la Guardia and his nephew, who will do anything to get "the invention of Cronus". Cronos is Guillermo del Toro's debut film and was part of the Mexican Gothic Cinema Program within the 13th FICM. Additionally, the film received multiple awards at international events, such as the Mercedes-Benz Award at the Critics' Week of the Cannes Film Festival. It also won several Ariel awards, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best First Work. Cronos (dir.
