Mexican cinema to take center stage in Valladolid

The lineup of Mexican films SEMINICI will offer the public include The Precocious and Brief Life Of Sabina Rivas by Luis Mandoki, which will compete in the fiction category, Drought by Everardo González, (Official Selection FICM 2012), in the documentary category; and The Zebra by Fernando J. León, and Expiration Date (Public's Award and Special Mention, Mexican Feature Film, FICM 2011) by Kenya Márquez, in the "Punto de Encuentro" section.

Outside the competition, SEMINICI will present the retrospective "Mexican Cinema Between Two Centuries, Reflections of Evolution" which will be accompanied by a commemorative book of the same name, written by Iván Trujillo, with the collaboration of Armando Casas and Eduardo de la Vega. The retrospective will include a selection of 20 titles, a cinematographic trip through the most outstanding of contemporary Mexican cinema:

SEMINICI has also chosen October 25 as "Mexico Day." On this day, there will be different activities to celebrate the cinematographic culture of our country. In a round table discussion, directors, actors and experts in Mexican cinema will debate the current situation of cinematography of the country. There will be a special projection of the restored version of the feature film La Perla (1945) by Emilio "Indio" Fernández and a showing of short films by Guillermo Del Toro, Alfonso Cuarón and Alejandro González Iñárritu.

An exhibit of 12 images published in the book ¡Luces, cámara, acción! Cinefotógrafos del cine mexicano 1931-2011 by Hugo Lara and Elisa Lozano will also be displayed at the festival. Finally, three figures of the Mexican cinematographic community will be present as members of the jury at SEMINICI: director Jorge Fons, director of the Vancouver Latin American Film Festival, Christian Sida-Valenzuela, and film critic Perla Schwartz.
