Mexican Cinema at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival 2013

Four Mexican productions will be screened at the 48th edition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, which will take place from June 28 to July 6. The Karlovy Vary festival is ranked by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF) among the most prestigious world film festivals and is considered the most important film event in Central and Eastern Europe.

The Another View section of Karlovy Vary 2013, composed of films that offer a unique perspective, includes Halley by Sebastián Hoffmann (FICM 2012 Official Selection). Also, participating in the Fresh Selection – The Promising Five section is Para armar un helicóptero by Izabel Acevedo, Best Short Fiction Film at FICM 2012.

Besides the work of these emerging talents, the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival includes two Mexican films which have already received extraordinary international recognition.

Accompanying Halley in the Another View section is La jaula de oro by Diego Quemada-Diez, winner of the Gillo Pontecorvo Award and of the Un Certain Talent Award at the Cannes Film Festival 2013.

Finally, the film which won Mexican Amat Escalante the Best Director Award at Cannes 2013, Heli, will be screened at the Horizons section of Karlovy Vary, which is formed by recent productions from around the world, including award-winning films from major festivals.

The opening film of the 2013 edition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival will be Michel Gondry’s latest work, Mood Indigo, starring Audrey Tautou and Romain Duris.
