09 · 04 · 13 Mexican cinema at the Toronto International Film Festival 2013 Share with twitter Share with facebook Share with mail Copy to clipboard The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), one of the largest film events in North America, has included eight Mexican films in the program for its 2013 edition, which will be held from September 5 to 15. Four of the films have participated or will participate in FICM. In an interview with El Universal, Diana Sánchez, program director of Latin American films for the Toronto festival, said, “Mexican cinema is showing new talent, new emerging voices. It’s been years since we’ve seen so many new directors.” Three features of the Official Selection FICM 2013 will be screened in Toronto. Los insólitos peces gato, by Claudia Sainte-Luce, and Paraíso, by Mariana Chenillo, are in the Discovery section, a space where the work of emerging talents is highlighted. Club Sándwich, by Fernando Eimbcke, will be shown in the Contemporary World Cinema section, which presents a collection of stories from around the world. The Contemporary World Cinema section will also include El mudo, by Daniel and Diego Vega, a co-production between Peru, France and Mexico, and Kwaku Ananse by Akosua Adoma Owusu, a United States, Ghana, Mexico co-production. La última película, by Raya Martin and Mark Peranson, co-produced by Canada, Denmark, the Philippines and Mexico, will be shown in Toronto in Wavelength, a section of daring films, along with El adiós largos, by Andrew Lampert, co-produced by the United States and Mexico. TIFF Docs, the documentary film section, will include El alcalde, by Emiliano Altuna, Carlos Rossini and Diego Osorno, Official Selection of FICM 2012. In addition, Gravity by Alfonso Cuarón, the opening film at the 11th FICM, will be screened in Toronto in special presentations, a section comprised of the most recent of well-known directors throughout the world.
