Nora's Will (Cinco días sin Nora) and Northless (Norteado) nominated for Ariel Awards

The Mexican feature film Nora's Will, directed by Mariana Chenillo and winner of the 2008 MIFF Audience Award, and Rigoberto Perezcano's Northless, 2009 MIFF official selection, have been nominated in 10 categories for the 52nd edition of the Mexican Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, to be held on March 23rd

Nora's Will will compete in the categories of Best Film, Director, Actor (Fernando Luján), Supporting Actor (Enrique Arreola), Supporting Actress (Angelina Peláez and Verónica Langer), Original Screenplay, Editing, Original Music, Make-up, and First Feature, while Northless will compete in the categories of Best Film, Actor (Harold Torres), Supporting Actress (Sonia Couoh), Original Screenplay, Cinematography, Editing, Sound, Art Design, Make-up and First Feature.

Nominees for Best Documentary Feature include Albino Alvarez's El informe Toledo, José Álvarez's Flowers in the Desert (Flores en el desierto), both Honorable Mentions at the 2009 MIFF, as well as Anaïs Huerta's and Raúl Cuesta's Rehje, 2009 MIFF official selection.??Amat Escalante's The Bastards (Los Bastardos), Best Feature at the 2008 MIFF, will compete in the categories of Visual Effects and Special Effects.

David Pablo's The Song of the Dead Children (La canción de los niños muertos), Best Short Film at the 2008 MIFF, will compete in the same category along with Federico Ceccheti's Los Trashumantes, 2009 MIFF official selection. Nominees for Best Animated Short Film include Miguel Anaya Borja's El armadillo fronterizo and Juan José Medina Dávalos's Jaulas, both part of the 2009 MIFF official selection.

Paulina Gaytán in Andrea Martínez Crowther's Cosas insignificantes will compete for Best Actress. Jorge Pérez Solano's Espiral is up for Best Costume Design and Make-Up, while Alfonso Pineda Ulloa's Amor, dolor, y viceversa is nominated for Best Original Music. All three films were part of the MIFF official selection in 2009.
