In Search of the Oscar and the Goya

Among the feature films that might be nominated for an Oscar or a Goya are We Are What We Are (Somos lo que hay) by Jorge Michel Grau, Official Selection FICM 2010, St. John's Dance (El baile de San Juan) by Francisco Athié, premiered at FICM 2010 Half of the World (La mitad del mundo) by Jaime Ruiz Ibáñez, Official Selection FICM 2009; Round Trip (Viaje redondo by Gerardo Tort, premiered at FICM 2009 A Wall for Cecilia (Una pared para Cecilia) by Hugo Rodríguez. 180° by Fernando Kalife which is only vying for a Goya.

Miss Bala by Gerardo Naranjo, a film that participated in the Official Selection of Un Certain Regard in Cannes 2011 and Bala Mordida by Diego Muñoz Vega are also on the list.

In the documentary category, Flowers in the Desert (Flores en el desierto) by José Álvarez, Special Mention in the Mexican Documentary category at FICM 2009 and Seven Moments (Siete instantes) by Diana Cardozo, Official Selection at FICM 2008 are also participating.

The election at the AMACC will take place from Sept. 19 to 22. Daniel Martínez, head of the Academy's Information section, said that the selected films will be announced on Sept. 23.

AMACC will give AMPAS the film elected to compete for the 84th Oscars Awards on Oct. 3, and AACCE the film elected for the XXVI Goya on Nov. 2.
