In a talk held in the Zalce Room of the Centro Cultural Universitario and moderated by Rafael Guevara, author Isis Saavedra presented the book Diálogos entre el cine y otros saberes as part of the 21st Morelia International Film Festival (FICM).

Saavedra thanked the festival for the space to present her work, an approach to cinema from other disciplines and professions, as well as to the phenomenon that resulted from its transition from scientific advancement to mass entertainment.

Libro

"It could be very important and very interesting to have a book that could bring together and engage in dialogue with all this knowledge and all these disciplines," she explains.

Saavedra says that the book, a compilation of 14 articles, was written by "very enthusiastic" people during the Covid-19 pandemic: "They all took the challenge very seriously."

Also at the table were academics Paulina Michel, Minelli Campos and Alejandra Gómez. Michel, who holds a master's degree in Art History from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), said that the book also sees cinema as a way to develop critical thinking; a door to enter culture and other forms of knowledge considering the fact that nowadays a child can make a three-minute short film with a cell phone.

Gómez, who holds a PhD in Art History from UNAM, points out that making a book is like making a film and that each article in Diálogos entre el cine y otros saberes will be useful to film lovers, since each one of them has a specific approach because it is addressed by people who don't make films.

"It is a must for anyone who wants to approach the study of cinema from the perspective of philosophy, psychoanalysis, history, sociology... Whatever social science they have in mind, it is here," said Campos about the depth with which the book is elaborated.
