Ava DuVernay Presents ORIGIN and Unveils her Armchair at the 22nd FICM

Origin was presented at the 22nd edition of the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM) by its director, Ava DuVernay, who also unveiled an armchair bearing her name.

The director was accompanied by FICM president Alejandro Ramírez, vice president Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Batel and director and founder Daniela Michel, as well as programmer Chloë Roddick, who said that Origin is a “masterpiece; an ambitious film that comes in time with surprising skill."

In Origin, writer Isabel Wilkerson embarks on a journey of global research and discovery as she writes Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents, all while facing an enormous personal tragedy.

Ava DuVernay thanked the festival directors for inviting her to present her film in Morelia. “Thank you for making the festival happen, it's very important and, despite being international, it feels like being at home,” said DuVernay.

The director said that while the movie may seem complicated, it is not: “It is a love story, but above all, it is an invitation to reflect and think about your place in the world."
