Año bisiesto wins Golden Camera in Cannes

Año bisiesto stars Mónica del Carmen and Gustavo Sánchez Parra, who won an award at FICM 2006. The film tells the story of Laura, a young reporter who seeks to mitigate her feelings of loneliness through fortuitous sexual encounters until she meets Arturo. They establish an intense romantic relationship mixed with passion, pleasure, and pain.

The film was very well received in Cannes where the audience applauded and congratulated Rowe after its screenings on Monday, May 17.

The Directors’ Fortnight was founded in 1969 as a space for independent filmmakers to exhibit their works. Among those who have participated include: Werner Herzog, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Nagisa Oshima, George Lucas, Martin Scorsese, Ken Loach, Jim Jarmusch, Michael Haneke, Chantal Akerman, Spike Lee, Luc et Jean-Pierre Dardenne and Sofia Coppola.
