Amat Escalante’s Sangre is Full of Surprises

“I started to follow Carlos’ work after I saw Japon, which really impressed me, though I think I work with amateurs because of budget constraints, as it’s not easy for me to hire professional actors. None the less, it’s not as if Carlos and I invented this, directors have been casting first-time actors in their productions for a long time,” Escalante replied.

Escalante said in an interview that he was more concerned with the audience’s reaction in Mexico than abroad: “I don’t know anyone in France, but here, I’m presenting a reality we all share, so I was worried about their response. Luckily, I think I did all right.”

Sangre will be screening in competition at the Chicago, Montreal, Sao Paolo, and Tokio Film Festivals, as well as in Salonica, in Greece, Rotterdam, Portugal and Holland. The film focuses on Diego (Cirilo Recio), a man conflicted by wife’s possessive character and his daughter’s wish to move in with him.
