Ripstein; Gabriel

He studied economy at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) and received an MBA in Media and Entertainment from Columbia Business School, United States. Gabriel was director of international affairs and business development for the Mexican production company Altavista Films. He also directed production operations at Sony Pictures in Mexico, and was senior vice president of production at Sony Pictures International Motion Picture Production Group, where he supervised the development of more than 20 features in Germany, China, India, Mexico, the United Kingdom and Russia. His professional experience includes both the creative part and the business side of film. He has written and produced several feature films in the United States and Mexico. He was a producer of the film Chronic (2015), by Michel Franco, winner of the Palm d’Or for Best Screenplay at the 68th Cannes Film Festival. His first film 600 Millas (2015) has been presented at various film festivals around the world, including the 51st Cartagena International Film Festival (FICCI), Colombia; the 63rd San Sebastián International Film Festival; the 44th Festival du Nouveau Cinéma in Montreal, Canada; and the 13th Morelia International Film Festival (FICM). 600 Millas won the award for Best First Film at the 65th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale), Germany; the Premio Mezcal for Best Mexican Film at the 30th Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG), Mexico; the award for Best Actor at the 23rd Art Film Fest in Slovakia; and the awards for Best First Film and Best Actor at the 19th Festival de Cine de Lima PUCP, Peru.
