Juárez Aguilar, Arturo

He studied audiovisual communication at the Claustro de Sor Juana University (UCSJ), a course on still photography at the Academy of Visual Arts (AAVI) in Mexico City, and a specialty in film photography at the International School of Film and Television (EICTV) of San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba. His work has been shown at more than 10 film screenings and festivals around the world. He has worked as a photographer in various feature films, including the documentary Ergonomía para Diana (2012) by Marcos Machado, winner, among other prizes, of the Special Jury Award at the 14th ICARO International Central American Film Festival, Guatemala; and the documentaries by Enrique Pérez Him: Puro Mula (2011), winner of the Latinoamérica Primera Copia award at the 31st International Festival of New Latin American Film, Havana, Cuba, and Caos en la ciudad (2012), winner of the DocTV Latinoamérica award at the 3rd DocTV Latinoamérica. He worked as photographer and co-producer of the feature film by Marcos Machado, Ovnis en Zacapa, scheduled for release in 2016, and whose project received the Centroamérica Construye award at the 15th Festival ÍCARO, Guatemala. His documentary short film Jeuh kieh a jm hm kahun / El sendero del caldo de piedra (2013), in co-direction with Sarah Borealis, was part of the Official Selection of the 12th Morelia International Film Festival (FICM). This work won the Best Short Film Screenplay Award at the 4th Bangalore Shorts Film Festival (BSFF), India, and has also participated in the 2nd Mpumalanga Short Film Festival (MSFF), South Africa; in the 26th Toulouse Latin American Film Festival, France; the 17th Cine Las Americas International Film Festival, Austin, Texas; in the 8th Independent Hispanic American Film and Video Festival, “All Voices Against the Silence,” in Mexico City; and in the DocuLab.4 at the 27th Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG), among others.

Ziuta tuvo la determinación, siendo una adolescente, de resistir el exilio con entereza, salvando a su madre y a otra familia de perecer en la huida. A pesar de los horrores y las penurias, mantuvo una actitud agradecida ante la vida.

Oskar Alegría emprende un viaje para recuperar el pasado. Con una cámara Super-8 que perteneció a su padre y que ha permanecido sin usar durante 41 años, planea seguir el camino del pastor —el viaje de trashumancia que su abuelo realizó en su juventud y cuyas coordenadas exactas nadie recuerda hoy en día.
