Gamou; Gustavo

He studied cinematography at the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (CCC) in Mexico City. His feature documentary La palomilla salvaje premiered as part of the Official Selection at the Festival de Cine Contemporáneo in Mexico City (FICCO) in 2006, where it won the Kodak Award for Best Latin American Documentary. That same year the film participated in the Biarritz Festival, where it won two Special Mentions: from L’Ecole Nationale Supérieure (ENS) Luois Lumière and from the jury. In 2006 he also took part in the 4th Morelia International Film Festival (FICM), where he received the Best Documentary prize; and at the Festival de Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano in Cuba, where he won the Coral Prize. In 2007 La palomilla salvaje was part of Ambulante Documentary Tour and was also screened as part of the 46th Critics Week at the Cannes Film Festival. Among the interenational festivals at which La palomilla salvaje has participated are: Sunny Side of the Doc in La Rochelle, France; The Oslo International Film Festival in Norway, and the Trieste Film Festival in Italy, where it received the Videoamerica Prize. During his career, the director has made music videos and short fiction films. In 2010 he directed the television documentary Granero, produced by Canal 22, which premiered at the Festival Internacional de Cine de la UNAM (FICUNAM) in 2011. This same year he won the Pantalla de Cristal prize for the cultural dissemination of Mexico and for recording the traditions of its people. He has also worked as a production manager on comercials and films like El lenguaje de los machetes, by Kyzza Terrazas (Official Selection at FICM in 2011) and Me quedo contigo by Artemio Narro (special screening at FICM in 2014). In 2008 Gamou started filming the documentary El regreso del muerto. This project, which was shot on the border of Mexico and the United States, premiered at the Los Cabos International Film Festival in 2013, where it won the Splendor Omnia Work in Progress Award, as well as a Special Mention. In 2015 El regreso del muerto was part of the Official Selection at FICUNAM. His documentary feature El regreso del muerto (2015) was part of the Official Selection of the 13th FICM.
