Almazán, Sabdyel

He studied communication at the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí (UASLP) and took a course in digital film at the Universidad del Centro de México (UCEM), San Luis Potosí. His work has been shown at more than 10 film screenings and festivals around the world. He won the Short Fiction Film Award at the 2nd Rodando Film Festival, San Luis Potosí for El día de las alas (2010). He received a grant from the State Fund for Culture and the Arts of San Luis Potosí to make his documentary short film El diablo, la danza y el tambor (2011), which won Second Place at the 7th Indigenous Film Festival (FECVI), Morelia. He participated with his short fiction film Dos colores (2012) in the 16th MIX Mexico: Festival of Sexual Diversity in Film and Video, and the Diversidad Somos Tod@s Festival, Cuernavaca, en 2013. His documentary short film Lalaxtsopelik, naranja dulce (2012) participated, among other festivals, in the 8th International Documentary Film Festival of Mexico City (DocsDF, in Spanish) within the section “Un, docs, tres por mí”, and in the 3rd International Film Festival of Puebla (FIC Puebla). He received for this work the Best Short Film Award and the University Prize at the 8th FECVI, Morelia. He participated in the 17th Festival Mix México with his short fiction film Puto putote (2013). His documentary short film Nenek (2014) was part of the Official Selection of the 12th Morelia International Film Festival (FICM).
