His short fiction film Cuarto oscuro (1996) won the Best of the Fest Award at the 2nd Palm Springs International Short Film Festival & Film Market (ShortFest), California, United States, and the Sony Award for Best Short Film at the 4th Kinofilm, Manchester International Film Festival, England. He participated in the 1st FICM with his short fiction film En el espejo del cielo (1998), which received numerous national and international awards, including the Jury Award at the 22nd Festival des Films du Monde (FMM), Montreal, Canada; the Coral for Best Short Film at the 20th International Festival of New Latin American Film, Havana, Cuba; and the International Jury Award at the 49th Berlin International Film Festival, Berlinale, Germany. His short fiction film Las olas del tiempo (2000) was screened at the tribute for Pepe Escriche during the 6th FICM. The film received the Jury Award at the 15th Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG) and the Canal + Award at the 29th International Film Festival of Huesca, Spain, among others. His first feature film Zurdo (2003) won four Ariel Awards at the 49th edition of the Ariel Awards: Best Soundtrack, Best Sound, Best Art Design and Best Costumes.
