“We have to keep connecting more to nature”: Olivier Dangles on LA FABRIQUE DES PANDÉMIES

La Fabrique des Pandémies (2022), directed by Marie-Monique Robin, was screened at the Special International Screenings of the 20th Morelia International Film Festival (FICM). In it, Robin and French actress Juliette Binoche travel through eight countries where they meet with scientists from around the world to understand the factors that cause the outbreak of infectious diseases.

Her conclusion is clear: Caring for our ecosystems is key to protecting our health.

The film was presented by Daniela Michel, founder and general director of FICM; Dr Arturo Reyes Sandoval, General Director of the National Polytechnic Institute; Dr Jorge Armando Barriguete Meléndez, member and coordinator of the France-Mexico committees of the National Academy of Medicine and the Mexican Academy of Surgery, foreign honorary member of the French National Academy of Surgery, foreign associate of the National Academy of Medicine of France, and decorated with the National Order of the Legion of Honor of France as Knight and Officer; Carlos Brito, Director of Canal Once Television; Jean-Pierre Asvazadourian, French Ambassador in Mexico; and Olivier Dangles, a researcher at the Research Institute for Development (Institut de Recherche pour le Développement, IRD).

La Fabrique des Pandémies (2022) is a film that talks about an important, relevant topic,” said Daniela Michel. “It is a very interesting film because it tells us about how pandemics are generated. It is clear that if we follow [them] and respond, based on science, the risk decreases significantly on all accounts,” assured Dr Armando Barriguete.

In response to the question "What can we do?" researcher and expert on the subject, Olivier Dangles, added that "we have to continue to connect more with nature, see what is there and respect it."
