08 · 26 · 13 Spot 11th FICM: The first of our second decade Share with twitter Share with facebook Share with mail Copy to clipboard Since 2003, the arrival of the FICM’s spot at the cinemas fills us with anticipation. Some time before the beginning of the festival and, already in Morelia, as an introduction to every film, the FICM’s image is projected onto the screen and prepares us for what’s to come: the film of a young Mexican talent, the most recent work of a consummated filmmaker, or a classic that is part of a retrospective, among many possibilities. Today, we are excited to present the 11th FICM’s (#FICM11) spot, the first of our second decade: The 11th FICM’s spot was created by Rodrigo Toledo, responsible for every spot in the festival’s history. The animation is based on this year’s image, which you can read more about: here. About the music, the designer commented: “The music used for the promotional spot of the 11th FICM is the first movement of the suite Antigua Valladolid, by the composer Miguel Bernal Jiménez. By using this piece, as well as an image based on Jesús de la Helguera’s Michoacana, I think I’m bringing together everything that represents the festival, for the time being, of course. But what excites me the most about using this piece is a very different reason. I’ll explain: I love Miguel Bernal Jiménez’ younguest grandchildren (Camila, Sebastián and Mateo) as if they were my own. Using their grandfather’s music brings me a lot of emotion, and I share it. So it’s pure nepotism, but of the good kind…” With the presentation of this spot, we anticipate the moment when we will see it on the big screen for the first time.
