Almas rotas by Juan Pablo Arroyo was presented at the 18th FICM

Almas rotas (2020) by director Juan Pablo Arroyo, was presented during the 18th Morelia International Film Festival (FICM).

Starring Patricia Bernal, Ramón Berrones, Raúl Méndez and Iván Montes de Oca, Almas rotas follows the story of Julián, who decides to abandon everything and embark on a journey without a destination. Ten years later he returns in search of his past and finds his es wife María accompanied by Santiago, a writer in whom she has found refuge. Julián's arrival takes all three of their lives in new and unexpected directions.

"Almas rotas stems from very personal feelings. It is not a story of my life but it is based on issues that I have seen, that I have lived; in frustrations that I have had, desires that I have not achieved, experiences in my life. Almas rotas is born from the depths of my heart."

In an interview for FICM, Juan Pablo Arroyo spoke of the importance of the farm where the film was shot, a place that has marked his personal history because it is owned by his family. "The farm for me represents a place to isolate yourself with your ghosts. For me, the farm becomes a great character where all our ghosts are sheltered."

The film is part of the Michoacan Section of the festival and will be available for free during 24 hours at Cinépolis KLIC from October 29 at 8:15 p.m.
