Robert Redford, guest of honor at the 17th FICM, received the Artistic Excellence Award

American actor and director, Robert Redford, was recognized the evening of October 22nd, in the context of the 17th Morelia International Film Festival, with the Artistic Excellence award, the unveiling of his armchair, and the naming of room 4 in his honor.

The actor, who paraded for the first time on the red carpet at the FICM, in the company of the Festival’s president Alejandro Ramírez, the vice president Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Batel and the director Daniela Michel, said he was excited to be in Morelia and grateful for the reception they gave him.

In his welcome speech, Alejandro Ramírez said that “his work is notable, not only because of his wonderful performances, but also for the type of characters he has chosen throughout his career: characters that defy convention and explore the complexity of human nature.”

Additionally, he highlighted that for the third consecutive year, the FICM works with the Sundance Institute in the realization of the Morelia Sundance Story Lab, which has supported more than 20 filmmakers from Mexico and Latin America.

Robert Redford unveils his armchair and a movie theater is named in his honor

As it is tradition with our guests of honor, the armchair with the actor’s name was unveiled, as well as room 4 of Cinépolis Morelia Centro, which from now on will be named Robert Redord.

In addition, he received the Artistic Excellence award for his extraordinary trajectory and the valuable contributions that his work has given to the film industry.

This award, designed by artist Javier Marín, was given for the first time to Mexican director Alfonso Cuarón in the past edition of the festival.

Robert Redford thanked the audience and the FICM for inviting him, and said he was moved by the warm reception he had. “We are neighbours, we are friends,” he stated. That said, he gave way to the gala screening of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969), one of the most memorable films of this cinema icon.
