Winner of the Best Screenplay Award and Best Actor Award at Cannes, the film begins with the discovery of Melquiades´ corpse by a fellow Mexican immigrant. The film will be distributed by Columbia Tri Star Pictures. Arriaga is the first Spanish-speaking scriptwriter in four decades to win the Best Screenplay Award at the Cannes Film Festival.
