Films in Progress 23 selects two Mexican films

The winners of the last edition of Films in Progress, Tanta agua by Ana Guevara and Leticia Jorge (Uruguay, Mexico and Holland), and Gloria by Sebastián Lelio (Chile), were catapulted into a successful trajectory in international festivals. In the most recent call for films, Films in Progress received 103 projects from 15 countries, and two Mexican productions were selected: El mudo by Daniel and Diego Vega, and Somos Mari Pepa by Samuel Kishi Leopo.

El mudo, a co production between France, Peru and Mexico, shows some events in the life of Peruvian judge Constantino Zegarra which lead him to believe his life is in danger. Somos Mari Pepa is based on Mari Pepa, Best Short Fiction Film at the 2011 FICM. Somos Mari Pepa, the feature film, delves into the story of Alex, a 16 year old who lives with his grandmother and is looking for new experiences with his rock band.

The six Latin American films competing in Films in Progress 23 are:
