The Yellow Robin Award was created by the Curaçao IFFR in collaboration with the Instituto Cubano del Arte e Industria Cinematográficos, the Trinidad & Tobago Film Festival, Jamaica Promotions Corporation, Bahamas Film & Television Comission and the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM). Each institution proposed an upcoming filmmaker to compete for the award, and Beristain was FICM's choice.

As winner of the Yellow Robin Award, Beristain will receive:

  • A ten thousand dollar cash prize rewarded by the Fundashon Bon Intenshon.
  • An invitation to attend the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) 2014, where a custom-made program will be put together for the filmmaker, enabling the filmmaker to network with the international film professionals present at the festival.
  • A screening of No quiero dormir sola at the IFFR 2014.
  • If the winner has a suitable new film project, this project will be taken into consideration for support by the IFFR’s Hubert Bals Fund and official CineMart selection. This, however, depends on the project and is therefore not guaranteed.
