03 · 31 · 13 Mexican feature film in Cannes L'Atelier Share with twitter Share with facebook Share with mail Copy to clipboard Since 2005, the Festival de Cannes' Cinéfondation, a section dedicated to promoting the work of film students, organizes L'Atelier. Through this initiative, Cannes chooses 15 feature film projects from around the world to aid their development. This year, the Mexican project Los herederos, by Jorge Hernández Aldana, is included in the selection. The filmmakers who participate in L'Atelier are chosen based on the quality and level of development of their projects, as well as on their previous films; since L'Atelier only considers directors who have made one or more films, including medium length and short films. Jorge Hernández Aldana was born in Venezuela, but has lived in Mexico City for many years. His opera prima El búfalo de la noche, based on the novel by Guillermo Arriaga and starring Diego Luna, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2007. His new project, Los herederos, is being made with the support of Lucía Films, the production company founded by Michel Franco, and it tells the story of a group of well-to-do teenagers who expect a future filled with fortune and power. In order to help the selected filmmakers, L'Atelier undertakes to: Publish a Livre des Projets (Project Brochure) to promote the film projects and present the directors and their producers to film professionals and the media. Organize appointments with producers, distributors and grant distribution managers in the Atelier pavilion, situated in the Village international-Pantiero, where the filmmakers' previous films and screenplays will be made available for consultation. Associate the selected filmmakers with the daily life of the festival by providing them with access to the program of daily festival screenings, meetings and events.
