Directed by Kimberly Peirce, the most recent version of Carrie stars Chloë Grace Moretz as the protagonist and Julianne Moore as her obsessive mother. Carrie is a shy and introverted teenager who is overprotected by her mother, a religious fanatic. The young girl is treated cruelly and humiliated by her classmates. However, Carrie possesses telekinetic powers that permit her to move objects from a distance, which helps her to take revenge. Kimberly Peirce is one of the female directors who is fighting for a foothold in Hollywood. Her acclaimed film Boys Don’t Cry (1999) received many awards at various festivals and Hilary Swank, the film’s star, won an Academy Award for Best Actress. In 2008, Peirce made Stop-Loss about a veteran soldier who returns home after serving his tour of duty in Irak.
