Special screening of Mr. And Mrs. Bridge, by James Ivory, at the 17th FICM

James Ivory, special guest at the 17th Morelia International Film Festival (FICM), attended a screening of his film Mr. and Mrs. Bridge (1990), where the audience could interact with him at the end of the showing.

He was asked about change as a feature of his filmography; to this, Ivory commented that it was not something premeditated, but usually because these are films about groups of people, of families, it happens a lot: “Families separate, some die, others are born. But it was not planned in the long term.”

About the ending of Mr. and Mrs. Bridge, James Ivory shared that the reason why the ending of the homonymous novel by Evan S. Connell was modified, on which the film was based, was because they did not feel very comfortable about it: “It made us feel uncomfortable and we were not satisfied, so we decided to modify the ending a little which was really tough for Mrs. Bridge.”
