The film is the second feature film by Gustavo Moheno. The first is a remake, made in 2007, of Hasta el viento tiene miedo, originally directed by Carlos Enrique Taboada in 1968. However, the experience of Gustavo Moheno in the world of cinema is extensive, since he has participated in the creation of several screenplays such as El libro de piedra (2009) by Carlos Enrique Taboada, La cueva del Diablo (2012) by Julio Cesar Estrada, and Fachon Models (2014) by Rafael Montero, to name a few. Michoacán actor Damián Alcázar plays the part of Eddie in the film. Eddie is a member of a group of old rockers who, after 30 years without playing, decide to return and reclaim their glory on stage. Due to the nature of the story, the music is essential – it was supervised by Anette Fradera, who worked in Como agua para chocolate (1992) by Alfonso Arau, Y tu mamá también (2001) by Alfonso Cuarón, and Rudo y Cursi (2008) by Carlos Cuarón, among others. The compositing work was done by 22-year-old Sara Herrera. The director Gustavo Moheno, actors Damián Alcázar, Dolores Heredia, Vico Escorcia, Sebastián Zurita, Álvaro Guerrero, and Jorge Zárate, and the producer Sandrine Molto attended the press screening. Jorge Zárate on who he was inspired by to play the part of the bass player in a rock band: “Base players are very clearly identified. I brought several together, I even had in my head Gene Simmons, but I didn’t want to stick out my tongue.” Álvaro Guerrero on playing rock in film: “For my generation this was always a dream. When I was 14 years old, I had the music of Led Zepellin, Jimmi Hendrix and others. Our dream was not to be soccer players but to be rock stars. So thanks to this sacred profession, another dream of mine was fulfilled, to give a rock concert.” Gustavo Moheno on how the story for the film was created: “The idea is an original script by Carlos Enderle. He presented this project to me several years ago and I fell in love with the idea and with Ángel Pulido, the screenwriter with whom I always work. We worked on Enderle’s script until we arrived at this. So we had to do all three for that part.” Damián Alcázar on who has the biggest ego, actors or musicians: “Yes, we have the music – it’s a rock group – but what’s most important are the human beings, the values they have, the friendship. About the ego, the character has to endure his punishment and embarrassment in front of his friends in order to be recognized again as one of them. I think that’s really the crux of the story, because this is not really a musical.” Vico Escorcia on the comic character of the film: “I really like the idea that people come to see the film and forget everything for a while and laugh. It’s a respite for people, for Mexico and for us.” The premiere of Eddie Reynolds y los Ángeles de Acero will be at a gala screening on Sunday, October 19, at 5:50 pm at the Cinépolis Morelia Centro with a red carpet ceremony and the presence of the cast.
