Documentary films that win designated juried documentary awards at select festivals included in this list, will automatically become eligible for Oscar® consideration in the Documentary Feature category. FICM is the only Mexican festival that is part of this list, and one of the three in Latin America, along with the Cartagena Film Festival (Colombia) and the It's All True - International Documentary Film Festival (Brazil). Since 2008, the Academy officially recognized FICM by offering the winning fiction, documentary and animation short films at Morelia the opportunity to be considered for an Oscar® nomination. We are very proud of this great news that reaffirms our mission to promote Mexican cinema.
