Studied law at the ITAM before entering the film program at the CCC film school. His first job in cinema was as a casting director and associate producer for the film Like Water for Chocolate (Alfonso Arau, 1992). He then worked as a production designer in the film Frida (Julie Taymor, 2002), which earned him a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Art Direction. He has collaborated with renowned directors, including John Sayles and Robert Rodriguez, and has staged works for theater, opera and dance. He recently published his first novel La culpa es del espejo.
