El Inca, by Ignacio Castillo Cottin, was presented at the 15th FICM

El Inca (2016), by Venezuelan director Ignacio Castillo Cottin was presented at Cinépolis Morelia Centro as part of the international premieres of the fifteenth edition of the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM).

Daniela Bueno, Alexander Leterni, Ignacio Castillo Cottin.

The film narrates the extraordinary and tragic story of world boxing champion and Venezuelan idol, Edwin "El Inca" Valero. It tells how, while his life rises on a professional level, it plummets on a personal and family level. It is worth mentioning that the film was granted several awards at the Venezuelan Film Festival, including the Audience Award for Best Film; however, it has been censored by the Venezuelan government.

"We try to be honest, but through the eyes of Edwin Valero. Try to understand him as human without judgement. For us, it could be neither good nor bad. We wanted to reflect that a violent person can be anyone. No one is born being bad," said the director in the film's presentation, which was also attended by actors Alexander Leterni and Daniela Bueno.

"We must understand that the boxers' guild is a group that has suffered a lot. Their work lies in the dehumanization of the other. They tell them that they must burst each other’s liver, and that can only be achieved by eliminating empathy. And yet we had to humanize it. Only then could we be honest and generate compassion," added the director.

It is the second film by Ignacio Castillo Cottin, who previously made La virgen negra (2008).
