FICM’s Best Documentary Winner to Screen at MoMA

FICM is pleased to announce that the documentary Los reyes del pueblo que no existe / Kings of Nowhere, by Betzabé Garcia, winner of the award for Best Feature Documentary at the 13th FICM, is to screen as part of MoMA’s DOC Fortnight 2016. The season, now in its 15th year, is dedicated to showing works that explore the relationship between contemporary art and documentary. DOC Fortnight 2016 will show 20 feature films and 9 short films from countries like Austria, Bangladesh, Belgium, Cambodia, Canada, China, France, the UK, Ireland, Lebanon, Morocco, the Netherlands, Norway, the Philippines, Portugal, South Africa, Syria, the USA and Mexico.

Kings of Nowhere has enjoyed an excellent critical reception – it was included among the best films of 2015 according to film magazine Sight & Sound, and it has screened at film festivals all over the world. As well as winning the prize for Best Feature Documentary at the 13th FICM, the film also won the Audience Award at South by Southwest; the Grand Jury Prize at the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival; the Golden Eye for Best International Documentary at the Zurich Film Festival; the International Jury Prize at the This Human World Festival, and the award for Best Documentary Director at Cinema Tropical, among others. The documentary received the Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma/Ambulante post-production grant, as well as support from FONCA from its Cultural Projects and Joint Ventures program.

To top it off, the film will now have its New York premier at MoMA, one of the most important platforms for cinematographic arts. Congratulations to Betzabé García for her extraordinary and continuing success!
