In the presence of the president of the FICM, Alejandro Ramírez, and the founder and director, Daniela Michel, the director of American Pie (1999) and About a Boy (2002), he said that the film "has many languages, all the actors do a magnificent job, but in addition to this we have the language of opera, which is what the film is about ".

"Opera seems to have no fear when it addresses the most important things in life and death, and in the United States pretty 'loose' stories are being told about human nature."

Bel Canto tells the story of Roxanne Coss, a famous American soprano, who travels to South America to give a private concert at a party in honor of a very influential Japanese businessman. Suddenly, the celebration is interrupted with the arrival of a guerrilla group, who demand the release of their imprisoned comrades. Threats begin, lives are lost and kidnapping is prolonged for many days while unexpected links are made.

The Unveiling of an Armchair in his Honor

In the company of producer Caroline Baron, screenwriter Anthony Weintraub and the Mexican actor Noé Hernández, Paul Weitz unveiled a armchair with his name, a FICM tradition for five years with which the festival recognizes the filmmaker’s career.

“Quiero llevármela a Los Angeles, pero mejor se las dejo aquí”, bromeó Weitz.
