Press conference with Natalia Beristain, No quiero dormir sola

Kyzza Terrazas and Natalia Beristain at the {{No quiero dormir sola}} press conference.

No quiero dormir sola is about the decline of an actress before the eyes of her granddaughter. "It's sad that the new generations don't take into account the wisdom of older people," Beristain said. "The important thing now is to be young, to live in the moment. To be old is old fashion."

The director was inspired in the relationship she had with her grandmother, Dolores Beristain, a former actress. "The research was taken from my own personal experience," the director said. "My grandmother Dolores was in an asylum of the National Actors Association, and I saw that she was very weak physically and unable to live on her own. Here is a reflection: to value youth and realize it is subject to new illnesses."

Actress Adriana Roel returns to the screen after an absence of several years, sharing the camera with Mariana Gajá. The director said that in spite of the generational difference between the two, what helped both in their work on the film was their experience as stage actresses. When Beristain wrote the screenplay, both actresses were already in the project.

No quiero dormir sola will continue the festival circuit, and with the support of Canana, it will be distributed commercially early next year. Having its premiere at the Critics' Week section of the Biennale di Venecia and presenting the film at festivals in Sao Paulo, Stockholm and Cairo has been a big plus.

"The Morelia International Film Festival is the best place to present the film in Mexico," Beristain said. "I love this festival very much because I've presented two short films here and I always feel very welcome."

No quiero dormir sola will screen on Monday, Nov. 5, at 6:15 pm at the Cinépolis Centro Morelia.
