Chloé Leriche, Marina Stavenhagen Based on the real case of the death of five Atikamekw people from the Atikamekw First Nation, from the Manawan community in northern Quebec. Soleils Atikamekw takes place in 1977 when a vehicle falls into the river and two white people survive the accident, while five Atikamekw lose their lives. Was it an accident or a racial hate crime?Chloé Leriche explained that most of the actors starring in the film have some kind of connection with the victims. “They asked me to tell their story,” she added.
