Blanco de verano by Rodrigo Ruiz Patterson premiered at FICM 2020

Blanco de verano (2020), by Rodrigo Ruiz Patterson, was presented at the 18th Morelia International Film Festival (FICM) within the Mexican Feature Film Section in competition.

Rodrigo is a teenager with a very intimate relationship with his mother, but everything changes when she invites her new boyfriend to move in. The relationship is fractured when Rodrigo must decide between recovering his former place, even if it hurts his mother, or accepting that things have changed.

"(With this film) I dived into my childhood memories and what came of it was something that I didn't expect. We had to have a very close relationship in order to create good drama. So that later, when the third member arrives, it would be dramatic that this relationship (mother and son) begins to wane", the director commented.

Screenwriter Raúl Sebastián Quintanilla said that even more important than Rodrigo's behavior regarding the relationship with his mother, was how permissive or restrictive she was: "This was important to avoid falling into an absurd provocation and to build complex relationships. Understanding how far into adolescence is he still a child in need of affection, and how much this mother supplies the things she needs in her life with the child."
