El FICM da a conocer la programación de su 15ª edición

Ciudad de México, 4 de octubre de 2017. El Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia (FICM) reveló la programación de su decimoquinta edición, la cual se llevará a cabo del 20 al 29 de octubre de 2017.

Selección Oficial

La parte esencial del Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia son las secciones en competencia de Sección Michoacana, Cortometraje Mexicano, Documental Mexicano y Largometraje Mexicano. Este año la participación será de 56 cortometrajes, 15 documentales, 15 obras michoacanas, y siete largometrajes de cineastas de distintos estados de la República Mexicana. En total habrá más de 100 realizadores mexicanos presentando su trabajo.

Por cuarto año consecutivo, el festival presentará la Selección de Cortometraje Mexicano en Línea, la cual está compuesta por 29 cortometrajes de la Selección Oficial del 15º FICM. Estos títulos estarán disponibles en línea y gratis a partir del 20 de octubre. El cortometraje que reciba más votos del público se llevará el Premio de la Selección de Cortometraje Mexicano en Línea.

Es importante recordar que en el caso de los cortometrajes de ficción, documental y animación, el ganador será considerado como elegible para la nominación al Oscar®.

Este año, la Sección de Largometraje Mexicano está conformada por: Los adioses de Natalia Beristáin; Ayer maravilla fui de Gabriel Mariño; Casa Caracol de Jean-Marc Rousseau Ruiz; Cuadros en la oscuridad de Paula Markovitch; The Drawer Boy de Arturo Pérez Torres; Oso polar de Marcelo Tobar; y Sinvivir de Anaïs Pareto Onghena.

Jurado

En esta decimoquinta edición, el jurado del FICM estará presidido por: Béla Tarr, realizador húngaro y uno de los cineastas más importantes en la historia del cine contemporáneo; Cristian Mungiu, director rumano ganador de la Palma de Oro; Charles Tesson, director de la Semana de la Crítica del Festival de Cannes; Karel Och, director artístico del Festival Internacional de Cine de Karlovy Vary; Christoph Terhechte, director del Forum del Festival Internacional de Cine de Berlín (Berlinale); Andrea Guzmán, codirectora artística de DocumentaMadrid; Bruni Barres, del Programa Documental del Instituto Sundance; Heather Haynes, programadora del Festival de Documentales Hot Docs; Thomas Fouet, miembro del comité de programación de la Semana de la Crítica del Festival de Cannes; Meredith Brody, reconocida crítica de cine de Indiewire; Jean-Pierre Garcia, fundador del Festival Internacional de Cine de Amiens; el cineasta y académico Marco Julio Linares; Paulina Suárez, directora general de Ambulante; y Clementine Mourao-Ferreira, productora y Agregada Audiovisual de la Embajada de Francia en México.

Estrenos nacionales e internacionales

Este año, se proyectará una selección de más de 50 estrenos de lo mejor de la cinematografía nacional e internacional. Contaremos con los estrenos mexicanos de: Cuando los hijos regresan de Hugo LaraHelena de Alejandro Sugich; Cygnus de Hugo Félix Mercado; Cinderelo de Beto Gómez; El viaje de Keta de Julio Bekhór y Fernando Sma; y El ángel en el reloj de Miguel Ángel Uriegas, entre otros.

Entre los estrenos internacionales, el FICM contará con: Beatriz at Dinner de Miguel Arteta; Good Time de Josh & Benny Safdie; Happy End de Michael Haneke; Loveless de Andrey Zvyagintsev; On Body and Soul de Ildiko Enyedi, ganadora del Oso de Oro en el pasado Festival Internacional de Cine de Berlín; The Other Side of Hope de Aki Kaurismäki; Suburbicon de George Clooney; Victoria and Abdul de Stephen Frears; Wonder Wheel de Woody Allen; Wonderstruck de Todd Haynes; Zama de Lucrecia Martel;  y, como ya es costumbre, se mostrará la Palma de Oro del pasado Festival de Cannes, ganada este año por The Square de Ruben Östlund.

Hecho en Michoacán

En su decimoquinto aniversario, el FICM rendirá tributo a su estado natal con el programa de cine clásico Hecho en Michoacán, creado en colaboración con la Filmoteca de la UNAM y la Cineteca Nacional. El programa está compuesto por tres títulos que marcaron el rumbo del cine nacional: Janitzio (1935) de Carlos Navarro, Maclovia (1948) de Emilio “El Indio” Fernández y El brazo fuerte (1958) de Giovanni Korporaal.

Semana de la Crítica

Como ya es tradición, figurará estelarmente la presentación de películas de la Semana de la Crítica del Festival de Cannes 2017: Ava de Léa Mysius; La familia de Gustavo Rondón Córdova; Gabriel e a montanha de Fellipe Gamarano Barbosa; Oh Lucy! de Atsuko Hirayanagi; Los perros de Marcela Said; Tehran Taboo de Ali Soozandeh; y Makala de Emmanuel Gras, ganadora del Gran Premio de la Crítica.

Programas y funciones especiales

El 15º FICM presentará un programa especial de Cine Anarquista Español curado por Édouard Waintrop, director de la Quincena de Realizadores del Festival de Cannes, que incluye: Nuestro culpable (1938) de Fernando Mignoni; Carne de fieras (1936) de Armand Guerra; Barrios bajos (1937) de Pedro Puche; y Aurora de esperanza (1937) de Antonio Sau Olite.

En colaboración con la Academia de Artes y Ciencias Cinematográficas de Estados Unidos, el FICM exhibirá el programa especial “De México a Hollywood a los Oscar®”, compuesto por: The Heiress (1949) de William Wyler; Viva Zapata! (1952) de Elia Kazan; Macario (1960) de Roberto Gavaldón; The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez (1982) de Robert M. Young; Y tu mamá también (2001) de Alfonso Cuarón; El laberinto del fauno (2006) de Guillermo del Toro; A Better Life (2011) de Chris Weitz; y Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014) de Alejandro González Iñárritu.

Este año, se exhibirá un programa dedicado a la casa productora Cinematográfica Marte, creado en colaboración con la Cineteca Nacional. Las películas de Cinematográfica Marte que se mostrarán en nuevas copias en 35mm son: Los caifanes (1967) de Juan Ibañez; Patsy, mi amor (1969) de Manuel Michel; Las puertas del paraíso (1970) de Salomón Laiter; Siempre hay una primera vez (1969) de Guillermo Murray y Mauricio Walerstein; Trampas de amor (1969) de Tito Novaro, Manuel Michel, y Jorge Fons; Paraíso (1970) de Luis Alcoriza; y Para servir a usted (1971) de José Estrada.

El 15º FICM exhibirá el programa especial Premio Jean Vigo, en el cual se presentará la cinta ganadora de este año Barbara de Mathieu Amalric.

Gracias al apoyo de la Film Foundation de Martin Scorsese, el FICM contará con una función especial de la copia restaurada de la seminal película mexicana Dos monjes (1934) de Juan Bustillo Oro.

En colaboración con el 13 Festival de Cine y Video Indígena de Michoacán, se presentará una función especial de Juchari Juata (Nuestro bosque), del Colectivo Eratsicua.

Por segundo año consecutivo, el FICM exhibirá el Programa de Diversidad Sexual, integrado por cortometrajes de cineastas mexicanos, así como un programa especial curado por el XPOSED Queer Film Festival Berlin.

MORELIA SUNDANCE Laboratorio de guion

En alianza con el Instituto Sundance, se llevará a cabo por primera vez un laboratorio de perfeccionamiento de guiones cinematográficos, en colaboración con Bertha Navarro y Marina Stavenhagen. Los cineastas seleccionados para participar en la primera edición del laboratorio son: Betzabé García, Tatiana Huezo, Rigoberto Perezcano y David Zonana. El laboratorio se realizará con el apoyo de Televisa.

Impulso Morelia

Programadores de importantes festivales nacionales e internacionales, productores, distribuidores y agentes de ventas serán invitados a participar activamente en Impulso Morelia. Este año, el jurado internacional estará conformado por: Rasha Salti, directora de contenido de La Lucarne, programa de documental experimental de Arte France; Richard Peña, director emérito del New York Film Festival; y Édouard Waintrop, director de la Quincena de Realizadores del Festival de Cannes.

Invitados Especiales

La nueva producción de Disney•Pixar, Coco, dirigida por Lee Unkrich y Adrian Molina, se mostrará por primera vez en la ceremonia de inauguración de nuestra decimoquinta edición, evento que se llevará a cabo la noche del 20 de octubre en Cinépolis Plaza Morelia con la presencia de los dos directores, Gael García Bernal, así como de los productores Darla Anderson y John Lasseter.

En esta edición, el FICM tendrá el privilegio de contar como invitado de honor a Guillermo del Toro, que presentará el estreno en México de su extraordinaria película The Shape of Water, ganadora del León de Oro en el 74º Festival Internacional de Cine de Venecia. Asimismo, se llevará a cabo dentro del marco del festival una función especial de The Shape of Water cuya taquilla será donada a beneficio de los afectados por los recientes sismos.

El reconocido realizador francés Michel Hazanavicius presentará el estreno en México de Le Redoutable, así como una función especial de El artista (2011), película ganadora de cinco premios Oscar en 2012.

El 15º FICM contará con el estreno en México de 120 Beats per Minute, con la presencia del actor Nahuel Pérez Biscayart. La cinta fue galardonada con el Gran Premio del Jurado en el pasado Festival de Cannes.

El aclamado director y gran amigo del festival, Barbet Schroeder, regresará a Morelia para presentar el estreno en México de su documental The Venerable W, estrenado en el pasado Festival de Cannes.

Asimismo, el festival contará con la presencia de Laurent Cantet, ganador de la Palma de Oro, que presentará su nueva película L’atelier.

Igualmente, el 15º FICM tendrá el privilegio de contar con la presencia de: Felipe Cazals, que estará presenté en una función especial de Los motivos de Luz (1985); Fred Kelemen, que presentará su nueva película Sarajevo Songs of Woe; y Bob Rafelson, emblemático productor y realizador norteamericano que transformó el cine de Hollywood en la década de los 60 y 70, y que presentará su clásico Five Easy Pieces (1970).

Sedes

Las sedes de esta decimoquinta edición serán los complejos Cinépolis Morelia Centro y Cinépolis Las Américas. Además, habrá funciones gratuitas en la Casa Natal de Morelos, el Aula Mater del Colegio de San Nicolás de Hidalgo, la Plaza Benito Juárez, y conferencias en el Teatro José Rubén Romero. Asimismo, se hará una extensión del festival en Pátzcuaro, en el Teatro Emperador Caltzontzin.

Lo Mejor del FICM en la CDMX

Las películas ganadoras y una selección de títulos del festival se presentarán en Lo Mejor del FICM en la Ciudad de México en: Cinépolis, del 3 al 9 de noviembre; Cineteca Nacional y Cinematógrafo del Chopo, 4 y 5 de noviembre; y en el Centro Cultural Universitario, del 10 al 12 de noviembre. Finalmente, se llevarán a cabo dos funciones al aire libre: en el Parque México y en el Jardín Centenario Coyoacán.

Official Selection

The essential part of FICM are the films competition, divided in the following sections: Michoacan Section, Mexican Short Film Section, Mexican Documentary Section and Mexican Feature Film Section. This year, there will be 56 short films, 15 documentaries, 15 works from Michoacán, and seven full-length feature films from different states of the Mexican Republic. In total, there will be more than 100 Mexican filmmakers presenting their work.

For the fourth consecutive year, the festival will present the Online Mexican Short Film Selection, which is comprised of 27 short films from the Official Selection of the 15th FICM. These titles will be available online and free from October 20. The short film that receives the most votes from the public will receive the Mexican Short Film Selection Online Award.

It is important to remember that in the case of the short fiction films, documentary and animation, the winner will be considered as eligible for the Oscar® nomination.

National and international releases

This year, a selection of more than 50 premieres of the best of national and international cinematography will be screened. FICM will have the Mexican premieres of: Cuando los hijos regresan by Hugo Lara; Helena by Alejandro Sugich; Cygnus by Hugo Félix Mercado; Cinderelo by Beto Gómez; El viaje de Keta by Julio Bekhór and Fernando Sma; and El ángel en el reloj by Miguel Angel Uriegas, among others.

Among the international premieres, FICM will feature: Beatriz at Dinner by Miguel Arteta; Good Time by Josh & Benny Safdie; Michael Haneke's Happy End; Loveless by Andrey Zvyagintsev; On Body and Soul by Ildiko Enyedi, winner of the Golden Bear at the Berlinale; The Other Side of Hope by Aki Kaurismäki; George Clooney's Suburbicon; Victoria and Abdul by Stephen Frears; Woody Allen’s Wonder Wheel; Todd Haynes's Wonderstruck; Zama by Lucrecia Martel; and, as is customary, FICM will screen the winner of the Palme d'Or at the most recent Cannes Film Festival: The Square by Ruben Östlund.

Made in Michoacán

On its fifteenth anniversary, FICM will pay tribute to its home state with the classic film program Made in Michoacán, created in collaboration with the Filmoteca UNAM and the Cineteca National. The program is composed of three titles that marked the course of Mexican cinema: Janitzio (1935) by Carlos Navarro, Maclovia (1948) by Emilio "El Indio" Fernández and El brazo fuerte (1958) by Giovanni Korporaal.

Critic’s Week

As is tradition, some films from the 2017 Cannes Film Festival Critics' Week will be screened at FICM: Ava by Léa Mysius; La familia by Gustavo Rondón Córdova; Gabriel e a Montanha by Fellipe Gamarano Barbosa; Oh Lucy! by Atsuko Hirayanagi; Los perros by Marcela Said; Tehran Taboo by Ali Soozandeh; and Makala by Emmanuel Gras, winner of the Grand Prix at the Critics’ Week.

Special programs and screenings

The 15th FICM will present a special program of Spanish Anarchist Cinema curated by Édouard Waintrop, director of the Directors' Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival, which includes: Nuestro culpable (1938) by Fernando Mignoni; Armand Guerra's Carne de fieras (1936); Barrios bajos (1937) by Pedro Puche; and Aurora de esperanza (1937) by Antonio Sau Olite.

This year, a program dedicated to the production house Cinematográfica Marte will be screened, created in collaboration with the Cineteca National. The 15th FICM will screen the special program Jean Vigo Prize, which will present this year's winning film, Barbara by Mathieu Amalric.

Thanks to the support of Martin Scorsese's Film Foundation, FICM will have a special feature of the restored copy of the seminal Mexican film Dos Monjes (1934) by Juan Bustillo Oro.

In collaboration with the 13th Indigenous Film and Video Festival in Michoacán, there will be a special screening of Juchari Juata (Our Forest), by the Eratsicua Collective.

For the second consecutive year, FICM will exhibit the Sexual Diversity Program, which includes short films by Mexican filmmakers, as well as a special program curated by the XPOSED Queer Film Festival Berlin.

MORELIA SUNDANCE Screenwriters Lab

In alliance with the Sundance Institute, a workshop for the perfection of cinematographic screenplays will take place for the first time at the 15th FICM, in collaboration with Bertha Navarro and Marina Stavenhagen. The filmmakers selected to participate in the first edition of the MORELIA SUNDANCE Screenwriters Lab are: Betzabé García, Tatiana Huezo, Rigoberto Perezcano and David Zonana. The workshop will take place with the support of Televisa.

Impulso Morelia

Programmers from important national and international festivals, producers, distributors and sales agents will participate in Impulso Morelia. This year, the international jury will be composed of: Rasha Salti, content director of La Lucarne, the experimental documentary program of Arte France; Richard Peña, director emeritus of the New York Film Festival; and Édouard Waintrop, director of the Directors' Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival.

Special Guests

The new Disney • Pixar production, Coco, directed by Lee Unkrich and Adrian Molina, will be screened for the first time at the opening ceremony of our fifteenth edition, an event that will take place the night of October 20th at Cinépolis Plaza Morelia with the presence of the two directors, as well as the actor Gael García Bernal, and the producers Darla Anderson and John Lasseter.

In this edition, FICM will have the privilege of having Guillermo del Toro as a guest of honor. The filmmaker will present for the first time in Mexico his extraordinary film The Shape of Water, winner of the Golden Lion at the 74th Venice International Film Festival. Also, the 15th FICM will feature a special screening of The Shape of Water in benefit of those affected by the recent earthquakes in Mexico.

The 15th FICM will feature the 120 Beats per Minute premiere in Mexico, with the presence of the actor Nahuel Pérez Biscayart. The film was awarded the Grand Jury Prize at the last Cannes Film Festival. Also, the festival will be attended by Laurent Cantet, winner of the Palme d'Or, who will present his new film L'atelier.

Venues

The venues for this fifteenth edition will be Cinépolis Morelia Centro, Cinépolis Las Américas and Teatro Ocampo. In addition, there will be free screenings in the Casa Natal de Morelos, the Aula Mater of the College de San Nicolás de Hidalgo, Plaza Benito Juárez, and lectures at the José Rubén Romero Theater. There will also be an extension of the festival in Patzcuaro, at the Teatro Emperador Caltzontzin.

The Best of FICM in Mexico City

The winning films and a selection of festival titles will be presented at The Best of FICM in Mexico City at: Cinépolis, from November 3 to 9; Cineteca Nacional and Cinematógrafo del Chopo on the 4th and 5th of November; and at the University Cultural Center, from the 10th to the 12th of November. Finally, two outdoor functions will take place in the Parque México and in the Jardín Centenario in Coyoacán.
