Image Chenillo, Mariana She studied cinematography at the CCC film school in Mexico City, where she taught courses on directing assistance, screenwriting and directing. She currently gives a class on screenwriting at the SAE Institute México. Her work has participated in numerous festivals around the world and has won more than 20 national and international awards. She has participated in five editions of the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM). She competed in the 1st FICM with her documentary short film En pocas palabras (2002) and in the 2nd FICM with her short fiction film Mar Adentro (2003). Her first feature film Cinco días sin Nora (2008), won the Audience Award at the 6th FICM; Best Direction at the 31st Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF); the “Abrazo” Award for Best Feature at the 18th Biarritz Festival of Latin American Cinema and Culture, France; the Golden Astor for Best Picture at the 24th Mar del Plata International Film Festival, Argentina; and seven Ariels, including Best Picture, Best Screenplay and Best First Film at the 52nd Ariel Awards, Mexico, among others. She made the short film La tienda de raya as part of the collective feature film Revolución (2010), presented at the 8th FICM, and premiered in the 60th Berlin International Film Festival Berlinale, Germany. Revolución also participated, among other festivals, in the 49th Critics’ Week at Cannes and the 19th Biarritz Festival of Latin American Cinema and Culture, France, where it won the “Abrazo” award for Best Picture. Her second feature film Paraíso (2013) was part of the Official Selection of the 11th FICM and the New Directors Section of the 61st San Sebastián International Film Festival, Spain, among others. She won the Grolsch Discovery Award for this work at the 3rd International Film Festival in Panamá (IFF Panamá). She has done several works for television, including directing the first five episodes of the first season and the entire second season of the series Soy tu fan (2010-2011). She also directed the documentaries on architect Teodoro González de León and writer Margo Glantz, within the television series on the winners of the National Arts Awards, produced by Arturo Ripstein, in 2010.
